Contemporary Braided Hair

The above hairstyle on Rihanna really symbolizes Elizabethan hairstyles. The fact that she red hair that has a hint of gold in it and also the braids. This is a very modern look compared to the 16th century as she has two french plaits on either side of the forehead forming one braid on the side. However, she has all the hair away from the face which gives the illusion of a high forehead.

This image is from the 2014 Paris fashion week for an Alexander McQueen collection. The whole appearance from the make-up to the hair looks Elizabethan. The center parting and the braids relate to Elizabethan hairstyles. As the hair is braided away from the face this makes the forehead appear larger. The braids all over the head almost look like the model is wearing a wig.

The hairstyle that Gwen Stefani has on the left side of the picture shows how ribbons and flowers can be used as decorations for the hair. This relates back to the Elizabethan Era as they used ribbons and thread as embellishments for the hair. In the picture on the right hand side she has two french braids going down her head and it almost looks like a heart shape which again references Elizabethan hairstyles.
