Practical- Zig Zag Curls

Practice creating a Historical Elizabethan Hairstyle using zig zag curls.

After crimping the whole head I divided the hair into a middle parting from the front. I separated a section of hair very close to the hair line. I then backcombed the hair and pined it at the back of the head. I created two puffs on either sides of the parting, to get a heart shape which was very popular during the Elizabethan Era. Using  hair pin I created zig zag curls on the hair that I sectioned of next to the hair line. To do this I wrapped a small section of hair in and out of a hair pin.

To set the curl in place I pressed it with a hair straighter. This is what the zig zag curl looks like once it has been released from the hair pin. I created the  zig zag curls on just one side of the hair just to see what effect the curls will give to the overall look.

Once the zig zag curls were released from the hair pins they were pretty tight curls. I wanted them to have a more softer look. Therefore, I slightly loosened them up by softly pulling them apart. I then placed them over the puff and pined them at the back of the head.

As seen in Elizabethan some curls were left hanging on the sides of the heads. I tried doing that with a zig zag curl. It added a retro look to the hairstyle.

At the back I created a regular doughnut bun. I also tucked in the left over hair from the puffs to get a more neater finish.

Evaluation

The right side of the hair is covered with the zig zag curls and the left side of the hair is just the crimped hair. I like the look on the right side more than that on the left side. This is because it has an Elizabethan look to it as well as having this edgy crispy contemporary modern look. It makes the hair look royal in a way.
With the bun at the back of the head I think it was too low. I will try the look with the bun a little higher to see what look it gives off. I can also use adornments to decorate the hairstyle. I was thinking of using a golden hair spray just on the zig zag curls and lay them onto the puff. I would love to see what this will look like. In my opinion it will give an effect of a crown on the head. I will be trying this to see what it really looks like.
