Health and Safety:
- Made sure there are no trailing wires that could cause a hazard.
- Bags and objects are kept under the working area not in the way, as they could be a tripping hazard.
Plaits
- To create the a french plait divide a section of hair into three equal parts.
- Take the outer most left strand over the middle, then take the outer most right strand over the middle.
- Repeat the same process, however this time pick a small section of loose hair from the each side combining it with the braid.
- The next step will be, take the left strand over the middle add some loose hair over the middle as well.
- Next, take the right strand over the middle and add some loose hair over the middle strand.
- Repeat these steps until all the loose hair is incorporated into the braid and continue as a normal three strand braid.
Evaluation
Creating a french braid was not as hard as it seems. At first I found it quite challenging because of all the strands of the hair and adding hair to each strand. It was kind of confusing in the beginning. However, as I kept on practicing I realized that the trick to make sure the plait comes out neat and tight, is to make sure my hands are close to the scalp and I add the same amount of hair to the strands each time.
Fishtail Plait
- To create a fish tail braid divide the section of hair into two parts.
- Take a small section of hair and from the outer part of the left side over to the right section.
- Then take a small part hair from the outer part of the right side over to the left section.
- Continue the same steps and this will form the fish tail braid.
Evaluation
Creating the fishtail braid was not that hard. However, i found keeping the braid together was a little tough. For the fishtail design to be formed I had to make sure I took the same amount of hair from each side. I found that the french braid and the fishtail braid have very different textures and shapes. The fishtail plait has a very soft look and has a flow to it. On the other has the french braid has tightness and a very rigid texture.
Buns
- To create the doughnut bun, take the section of hair and tie it into a ponytail.
- Divide the ponytail into four equal sections.
- Roll each section into a barrel curl and pin it in place using a grip pin. They will all be pinned in opposite directions.
- To make this look like a doughnut bun, using hair pins slightly tag each side connecting each one.
- This will close any gaps and will form the round shape.
Evaluation
I honestly had no idea that we could create this bun without using the doughnut ring. I found it a little challenging as I had to make sure all the four parts of the bun were equal. I also had to make sure that all the four sides had no gaps yet keeping the round shape without it getting sloppy. Keeping all this in mind I learned how to create a new style and I was quite happy with the outcome.
- To create a twist bun take a section of hair and tie it into a pony tail.
- Twist the pony tail holding it from the roots.
- Then form a bun with the twist and pin it in place using grip pins.
- After this is the bun does nit have any shape you can form a shape and pin it in place with hair pins.
Evaluation
This bun was the most interesting one for me to create. This is because once I created the top knot I found it quite a challenge to get a shape for it so it could look like a bun. Once I did that I was quite happy with the outcome.
- To create a braid bun take the desired section of hair and tie it into a ponytail.
- Braid the ponytail into a three strand braid.
- Twist the braid round and form a bun with it.
- Using grip pins pin it in place and there we have a braid bun.
Evaluation
In my opinion this type of bun would look much better particularly on long hair because the detail of the braid will be seen if the bun was bigger.
In conclusion I enjoyed creating these different styles of buns and plaits. I look forward to use this knowledge to create an Elizabethan contemporary hairstyle.
