Redheads and Royalty is a project in which we look at contemporary hair
and hair styles from the Elizabethan Era. We would then have to combine these
two very diverse styles to create a contemporary hair up.
My initial thoughts and ideas for this project are that firstly, I will carry out research on the Elizabethan era and contemporary styles in the 21st century.
My initial thoughts and ideas for this project are that firstly, I will carry out research on the Elizabethan era and contemporary styles in the 21st century.
For this I will look at hairstyles in the Elizabethan portraits
from internet sites, books, articles and various exhibitions. I will create a mood
board to get some ideas of what styles I would like to combine from these two
eras.
Looking at Elizabethan hair, the prominent color that only the rich people could have was different variations of red and orange. it was more of a strawberry blonde color.
The hair always had a lot of volume texture wise. It was thick and in my opinion it looks like thick perms. Their hair was always curly.
The queen's hair always had a round shape to it. It also had a heart shaped structure from the front. I guess this was also one of signs of royalty.
Pearls were known to be the most expensive jewel in those times.
She often had pearls as adornments in her hair as well as other precious jewels. Feathers, laces and nets were also used for hair decoration.
These are all my initial thoughts and ideas on the Elizabethan hair. However, I will carry out more research as this will expand the basic knowledge that I already have on this era. Hair is not one of my strong points, nevertheless I look forward to this challenge of combining historical hairstyles with contemporary styles.
